Transform Your Outdoor Space

If you're trying to decide between a classic wooden deck with an elegant flair, or a sleek and modern composite deck, we can help!

Wood Deck & Patio

Wood is the original and traditional material used for decks. It has a more classic look and feel than other materials. Also, you can change the appearance with different stains over time.

Pros

The most common types of wood decking are treated pine, cedar and redwood.

Cedar and Redwood are both a strong wood. They are resistant to warping and twisting over time. Cedar is naturally rot and insect resistant, while redwood needs to be sealed, it absorbs stains best and has a great look when finished.

Treated pine is the least expensive, and also resistant to rot and insects. Depending on the quality of wood used, pine has a tendency to warp or twist faster than other types of wood.

Cons

All wood decks need to be maintained. This is one of the main "cons" people have. You will need to stain and seal your deck every 3-4 years to keep it looking nice and reduce rot.

With proper care, a wood deck will last 20-30 years, or more, depending on severity of the weather.

Composite Deck & Patio

Composite decking gives you the eye catching look of natural wood, or a variety of other color options. It is maintenance free, more durable than wood, and more expensive.

Pros

Composite decking is made from recycled wood and plastic. The boards never have to be sealed, stained or painted. In direct sunlight they won't warp or crack. They're splinter free and resistant to stains and fading. These decks will last upwards of 30 years with minimal maintenance.

Cons

There are very few cons to composite decking. Things to consider are; composite gets hot in direct sunlight, and it tends to be more slippery than wood when there is frost.

Though they require almost no maintenance, it's important to clean the deck once or twice per year to prevent mold buildup and reduce slick spots from forming.
